Dr. Dixon has a passion for sports. Throughout his career he has provided care for athletes at various levels, including: NHL, NCAA, CIS, OHL, PAN AM games and recreational levels.
Sports Injuries Specific Training
Dr. Dixon is a certified complete concussion management provider. He has his highest level of first aid (medical first responder) - certified through sports physiotherapy Canada. He is a certified first aid instructor through the Canadian Red Cross.
Dr. Dixon has attended seminars on running biomechanics and running injuries, golf swing analysis and injury prevention and functional movement screens.
Kitchener Dutchmen (Junior B Hockey)
Dr. Dixon has been the team chiropractor and co-trainer for the Kitchener Dutchmen of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League for the past 3 seasons. In his time with the Dutchmen Dr. Dixon has provided emergency medical care and treated numerous hockey related sports injuries. Dr. Dixon also has implemented baseline concussion testing and return to play protocols.
Dr. Dixon was one of a select number of healthcare providers chosen to provide therapy for some of the over 6,000 athletes, representing 41 nations who participated in the PAN AM games. As a sports first responder, Dr. Dixon provided on field first aid coverage for soccer and karate competitions.
First Aid Coverage and Therapy at Other Sports Events
Dr. Dixon has provided first aid management for a number of current NHL stars during on ice practices. This summer Dr. Dixon also provide on ice management for Creative Artist Agencies 2001 prospects camp. This week long camp showcased some of the top 2001 hockey players in North America.
Dr. Dixon has also provided first aid management and therapy for local rugby, OFSAA and CrossFit competitions.
Learn to Run 5 km
Dr. Dixon has also given numerous talks on injury prevention to learn to run groups hosted by the running room. His talks were so successful that he has started his own learn to run program. The learn to run 5 km program is offered twice a year (spring and fall). In addition to a fun outing, participants are taught how to prevent injuries, proper nutrition, running biomechanics, proper warm-um/stretching, post run recovery supplements and what running shoes participants should use.
